Rainbow K

Kelly and Kelia of Paris-based Rainbow K were passionate jewelry fans before they became designers. Translating vintage jewelry inspiration into modern creative statements, their brand brings a fashion sensibility to fine jewelry.

Marrying "clean lines and French finesse", according to the design duo, Rainbow K drops regular, trend-driven collections throughout the year. From their emblematic Piercing earring - now available in a dizzying array of pavé and mixed metal combinations - to utilitarian ID tag-inspired earrings and gold shark's tooth bangles, they put their own design stamp on each look, distilling runway trends down into powerful fine jewelry, with a little extra je ne said quoi each time.

Colored stones and bold shapes are a hallmark (the diamond pavé and baguette gemstone Empress ring is a case in point), with pieces designed to be stacked and collections interchangeable: "We love to see friends, family, and customers layering the pieces up - the more, the better!"

Aubade sat down with Rainbow K to find out how they make fashion work so well for fine jewelry.

Rainbow K brings fashion to fine jewelry. Why did you decide to take this approach?

We were both having a hard time finding what we were looking for in the fine jewelry market. The jewelry brands in France almost all offered classic styles only, but we wanted a more fashionable, trendy model while being chic and precious. We wanted to turn vintage inspirations into modern artistic statements through gemstones, precious metals, and bold shapes. A great deal of our inspiration comes through our passion for vintage and the Art Deco era, as well as current runway looks, then we add our edge, bringing modernity into the mix.

What are the strongest trends that you have identified?

We have an endless list of trends we research, and together we look at leading European ready-to-wear fashion brands for inspiration and mix in vintage elements. Current strong trends include mixed metals, textured jewelry, and movement in jewelry, as well as white gold, and emeralds - all trends you will see throughout our collections.

What are your favorite materials?

We love to work with mixed golds, diamonds, rubies and sapphires.

We wanted to turn vintage inspirations into modern artistic statements through gemstones, precious metals, and bold shapes.

Your jewelry is designed and made in Paris; how does the city inspire you?

Paris has some of the most iconic landscapes in the world, from the Arc de Triomphe to the scenic views in Le Marais, and we draw inspiration from it all. The colors throughout the city, the shapes of the buildings, and our beautiful Parisian surroundings inspire us every day.

How do you like to see your jewelry styled?

We believe more is more, and you can't go wrong wearing multiple pieces around your neck, or on your wrist. Mix it up and play, there are endless combinations! The collection is designed to be styled in a way that makes the wearer feel good and comfortable.

What are your own favorite pieces in the collection?

It is hard to select a favorite style as each piece holds special meaning and reminds us of a special moment. Perhaps the Empress Ring, as that was one of the first rings we designed and is one of our top sellers. We love seeing how others style it, layered, stacked, or by itself as a pinky. It truly defines our brand.

Who wears your jewelry best?

Dua Lipa and Gigi Hadid layer and style the jewelry beautifully, their edgy style complements our collections beautifully.
