Designer Interview

31·03·2023

Bold, punchy, and like nothing else around, Eéra serves up an industrial-luxe aesthetic that teams diamond pave with color-pop enamel, channeling all the joy and exuberance of the designers' home city of Milan.

Eéra designers Chiara Capitani and Romy Blanga joined forces in 2019, combining their respective expertise in the fashion industry to design modern fine jewelry with a unique look. Inspired by a vintage snap hook found in a market in Tokyo, they set out to create a line of jewelry that worked using the same simple hinge. The snap hook now forms the basis of every collection, and their customizable Chiara carabiner earrings - that wearers can clip together to create their own combinations - are still bestsellers today.

Teaming diamond pave with fluorescent brights on enamel earrings, and hand-coloring metal chains using a proprietary technique, the pair elevate everyday hardware motifs like clips, name tags, nuts, bolts and keys to colorful effect, for a dedicated customer base can't get enough of their fun and inherently wearable jewels. Available at stockists around the world, Eéra spotlights Italian craftsmanship with handcrafted jewelry made in Vincenza, Italy, blending both traditional and modern techniques for a new generation of luxury consumer. Chiara and Romy took us behind the scenes on their feel-good jewelry.

What are the biggest inspirations for your work?

Traveling around the world. Los Angeles and Tokyo are the two cities where we like to go the most to carry out our research.

Why do you think you are so drawn to color?

Colorful jewelry can be such a light, fun addition to your look, which makes it easy to incorporate into most outfits. When it comes to our most colorful pieces, we hope that they give the wearer confidence, as we believe that ultimately jewelry is a tool for self-expression.

Fine jewelry no longer needs to be reserved for special occasions, and colorful pieces prove that.

You were one of the first to pair brightly colored enamel with precious metals and stones. How did this come about?

We believe that the customers attitude towards fine jewelry has changed over the past couple of years, and that people now really appreciate a contemporary approach to design. Fine jewelry no longer needs to be reserved for special occasions and colorful pieces prove that.

You're based in Milan but you studied in London. How have both cities influenced your jewelry design?

Milan is inspiration, energy and good vibes. It gives you the chance to express yourself to the fullest. While London taught us dedication and hard work, both very important skills required for leading a company.

Who - real or imagined - would you like to see wearing your jewelry?

All inspiring, creative and powerful women around the world.
